The number stays billed on your carrier account (Twilio, Vonage, Telnyx, or another SIP provider). Voicetta does not buy or port the number for you. ## Why it matters for your business - Keep numbers you already use with Guests. - Avoid buying a second line when you only need Voicetta answering. - Use your existing carrier contract and compliance setup. ## Before you start You need: - an agent in Voicetta, - owner access to the workspace, - the number in E.164 format (for example `+14155550123`), - credentials for the provider that owns the number. ## Providers ### Twilio 1. Open **Phone numbers** → **Add** → **Import Existing Number**. 2. Choose **Twilio**. 3. Enter the number, Account SID, and Auth Token. 4. Leave SMS off unless Voicetta has told you SMS webhooks are ready for Twilio. 5. Import, then place a test call. Voicetta updates the Twilio voice webhook automatically so inbound calls reach your agent. ### Vonage 1. Choose **Vonage**. 2. Enter the number, API key, and API secret. 3. After import, complete the SIP voice setup shown in the success message so Vonage dials Voicetta LiveKit. ### Telnyx (your own account) 1. Create a dedicated Telnyx API v2 key for Voicetta. 2. Choose **Telnyx**. 3. Enter the E.164 number and API key. 4. Import. Voicetta then: - confirms the number belongs to that Telnyx account, - finds or creates a Telnyx FQDN connection named **Voicetta LiveKit** on **your** Telnyx account, - points that connection at Voicetta’s LiveKit SIP host, - assigns your number to the connection, - attaches LiveKit routing for the agent. You do **not** paste a Telnyx connection ID. ### BYO SIP trunk 1. Create a SIP trunk in Voicetta with your provider gateway host and optional username/password. 2. Attach the DID to that trunk. 3. Configure your SIP provider to send inbound calls to Voicetta LiveKit for that DID. ## After import - Confirm the number appears on **Phone numbers** with the correct source badge. - Assign the agent if needed. - Enable inbound routing and place a test call. - Enable outbound only when you need outbound calling from that number. ## Deleting an imported number Deleting in Voicetta removes Voicetta routing and local records only. The number stays on your carrier account. ## Common mistakes - Using Voicetta’s purchase Telnyx key instead of **your** Telnyx API key. - Entering a number that is not on the credentialed account. - Expecting carrier porting (LOA/FOC) — this flow is import/BYO, not porting. - Enabling Twilio SMS before Voicetta SMS webhooks support Twilio. ## Notes - Import is not carrier porting. Deleting an imported number keeps the DID on your carrier. - Twilio SMS Enabled should stay off until Twilio SMS webhooks are supported. - Telnyx outbound calling may still require an Outbound Voice Profile on your Telnyx account. ## Related pages - [Phone Numbers](/docs/phone-numbers) - [Inbound Calls](/docs/inbound-calls) - [Outbound Calls](/docs/outbound-calls) - [Calling Restrictions](/docs/calling-restrictions) - [Troubleshooting](/docs/troubleshooting)
